Writer: Libby SankeyLibby Sankey

Have you found yourself wearing more loungewear or sweatpants than you did a year ago? What about less jeans, dresses, or business-causal outfits? Many people own facemasks in a variety of styles and colors because they are now so prevalent in our everyday wardrobes and use. Covid-19 has had many effects on students including adjustments to remote learning and 72% of surveyed students said Covid-19 and remote learning has influenced change in the way they choose to dress.

As you can see, the pie chart above shows that 72% of surveyed students answered that Covid-19 and remote learning has influenced change in the way they choose to dress. 28% of surveyed students answered "No."

In the past year, there has been an increase in people working, learning, and living from home, therefore, wardrobe and outfit choices of students have changed. Students specifically have gone from very busy, on-the-go lives to learning and maneuvering remotely, which most definitely has its effects on student fashion choices. 85% of students answered yes to "Would you say that you’ve found yourself wearing less business casual/ dress clothes than you did prior to Covid-19/ remote learning?" Students are not dressing up as often because of Covid restrictions and working remotely.

Comfortability of clothing has become increasingly more important than it may have once been to most people. 74% of students surveyed answered yes to the question, "Would you say that comfortability (being comfortable) in your clothing is more important to you than it was prior to Covid-19?" Students are more concerned by their own comfort during remote learning than about what they are wearing. One student shared in additional comments of the survey that he or she has purchased an increase in comfortable clothes due to Covid-19. A significant amount of students shared that Covid-19 has influenced them to online shop for clothing a lot more often than they did prior to the pandemic. One student mentions that they have more time on their hands so they shop online for clothing. Another student writes that they shop for clothing more often because they have developed their own personal style during Covid-19.
